5 Tips from the WotLK Top Gold Farmers
In World of Warcraft, there are hundreds of different ways to make solid profits. A WotLK gold guide is available on just about every possible topic you can imagine and they all tell you the same basic things – you need to have a great deal of patience and be incredibly observant to make gold.
But, of course, there are always a few shortcuts and that’s what these top 5 tips are here to help you uncover – a few good shortcuts.
- Reading Patch Notes – Every good WotLK gold guide will tell you the same thing – look for little things in the patch and maintenance notes that can help you boost your gold making potential. When a new item comes in or an old one becomes more rare, you can make much more money off of it by being there to farm them before the price skyrockets.
- Tracking Your Totals – WoW gold guides do not reiterate this point nearly enough. When you are making gold, always keep track of your totals. The WoW gold guides will give you numbers to go by, but they can always be wrong. After all, we are all human, not to mention the game is constantly changing and while a certain spot and method may have garnered upwards of 140 gold an hour for someone else before, it could easily provide only 90 for you. Track your totals and compare them yourself.
- Knowing the Mobs – Know the mobs you are fighting. If you are prepared for every farming session you begin, you will kill them faster and make more gold. WotLK gold guides often forget to give a bit of basic information about your quarry before you go in to fight them and that can lead to a whole host of problems for you if you are not prepped.
- Off-Peak Farming – Farm at the right times and you can make more gold faster. WoW gold guides are very popular, which means some locations are highly farmed most of the day. If you get online when those gold guide owners are not though, you won’t have to wait as long for mobs to spawn or invest nearly as much effort into effectively farming them.
- Auction House Integration – Finally, the biggest point that all WotLK gold guides reiterate is that you must absolutely, 100% of the time, have a firm grasp on the current status of the Auction House and the items you are farming.
Reading the WoW gold guide thoroughly and understanding the general rate you should charge as well as constantly checking for updates, new rates, and changes in item availability will all go a long way in boosting your ability to make gold.
WotLK gold guides are an essential first step in making solid profits in the game; but if you want to be as effective as possible in doing so, you must remember to continually remain vigilant – checking things like drop rates, mob appearances and gold per hour rates.

I’m not going to list out all the talent specs I’ve seen thus far for the Death Knight on the Internet – there are literally dozens of them and many more are being put up all the time. Because players essentially get access to 49 talents within the first two hours of gameplay, it’s no surprise that there are so many different options – no one has really spent enough time sorting through all the talents to figure it out.
I won’t say I have either, but here are a few of my thoughts on what you’re getting with each of the major talent builds:
Blood Tree
The blood tree is designed to be a hybrid spec for DPS or tanking that focuses on physical damage as well as disease augmentation.
You can usually raid with this spec or DPS at the same time and in PvP, the DPS build is very popular. Builds here will usually go with 51 points in Blood and a combination of points in Frost and Unholy to get a boost to Icy Touch, Glacier Rot, and Vicious Strikes
Frost Tree
The frost tree is based on burst damage and tanking, allowing you to land huge damage by freezing opponents and hitting them hard with explosion and frost related abilities. The majority of these builds will start with 51 or 52 talent points in Frost and the rest in Blood for additional physical damage output.
Unholy Tree
The Unholy talent tree is designed for those who want to summon ghouls and use them in their combat. You are going to find that this tree focuses on summons and diseases – the closest similarity being to Warlocks (though nowhere near the same in actuality). This is a good leveling build and has solid DPS as well. Most builds will go with 54 points in Unholy and a split of the rest with 10 or more in Frost to maintain DPS.
Of course, these are just the basics – there are dozens of hybrids and useful mixtures that can make a Death Knight useful in almost any situation when properly played.

After a few thousand quests completed in the classic world of Azeroth and then followed by the new content in Outland, players are ready for some variety in their quests and Blizzard has decided to oblige their players by adding a whole slew of new types of quests this time out in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack. Since the expansion pack was announced, there has been rampant speculation about what might appear in the new content – now we know and it looks like quite a bit of fun new quest types to try out.
In general, most previous quests for World of Warcraft involved killing a set number of mobs or looting a set number of items. Creativity was in there, but volume of quests would often bury it. With Wrath of the Lich King, the gathering and Kill Quests are back of course, but now you will be presented with a whole slew of new quest types to spice things up a bit, including:
• Siege Weapons and Vehicles – They’re not just available for PvP – they’re going to be making up a number of your normal quests as well.
• Chasing Mobs – This quest type will allow you to chase down mobs and capture them instead of just killing them.
• Lore and Past Quests – Not just in the present, but the past as well. Think of Caverns of Time but in the live game world and with your normal quests.
This is just a taste of all the new content that has been added to the quest charts for Wrath of the Lich King. In addition, Blizzard has added a whole slew of new Daily Quests that are available starting at Level 68, meaning you can do them without your flying mount from the second you set foot into Northrend. In general, your options have been increased many times over, making it so that you can enjoy the game from dozens of new angles – just wait until you start white water rafting.

There has been a lot of talk of late about WotLK Secrets, the newest guide from T Dub, the guy behind a whole slew of other WoW products, guides, and videos. A good amount of the buzz has been positive, but there have been a lot of reviews that have questioned the validity of the guide and whether or not the thing is legit. I wanted to go ahead and put my experience forward as a voice for the guide in a truthful review of what you really get in WotLK Secrets.
The Content
The guide content is pretty impressive. From the first moment you open it up, you’re going to find about 250 pages worth of info about the newest stuff coming into WoW with Wrath of the Lich King. To be honest, I didn’t even know about a lot of this stuff when I first bought my copy of WotLK and it was nice to see the spread of new info to help out those who were just getting into it for the first time.
Everything is covered in some degree of detail. The most impressive parts to me though were the complete Inscription guide showing how to level up, how to make gold, and all the various different glyphs in the game. The other truly impressive addition was the Raid and Instance guide, with more than 12,000 words of strategies about everything from the first new instance in the game to the three stage strategy to defeating Malygos with your raiding party on Heroic.
The Final Verdict
With WotLK Secrets, you are getting a complete guide that covers every aspect of the new game in depth. If you have not yet played through to Level 80 or if you are just confused or lost where you are, you should check out this guide and get a good idea of what you are missing out on and how to optimize your play time and style.
